From a rural village to the first $100: what curiosity can change
A cybercafé, 40 dirhams an hour, a first PC and a Google cheque that felt like a fortune.
Does birthplace decide destiny?
I was born in Oulad Attou, a small rural village in central Morocco. The expected path looked settled, but moving to Salé opened another world. I had no perfect plan, only curiosity and a desire to make my parents proud.
The cybercafé as a doorway
An hour cost 40 dirhams while my father earned around 1,100 dirhams. Every session mattered. I learned HTML, Dreamweaver and then PHP. My first site had 400 pages, so every small edit had to be repeated 400 times. That constraint taught me to think in systems.
The first proof
Dimatop earned my first Google cheque, close to $100. After waiting three months, it represented more than money. It proved that a self-taught skill could open a door I could not yet see.
What is your doorway?
